Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one instruction and support based on each individual's individualized learning plan and identified needs.

  • Teach and reinforce practical independent living skills, including:

  • Personal care and self-management

  • Household management

  • Meal planning and basic nutrition

  • Money management and budgeting

  • Community access and transportation skills

  • Health and wellness management

  • Social skills and self-advocacy

  • Time management and organization

  • Safety awareness

  • Use appropriate teaching strategies such as modeling, task analysis, prompting, role-play, visual supports, and gradual fading of assistance.

  • Encourage individuals to make choices, express their preferences, and participate in decisions affecting their daily lives.

  • Support individuals in practicing skills in real-world settings, including their homes and the community.

  • Maintain professional boundaries and protect each individual's dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.

  • Communicate regularly with families, caregivers, and the Astalynn program team regarding progress and areas requiring additional support.

  • Accurately document services provided, progress toward goals, and relevant observations.

  • Complete required service documentation and reports in a timely and professional manner.

  • Follow Astalynn policies, regional center requirements, and applicable regulations.

  • Attend required training, staff meetings, supervision, and professional development activities.

  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment during all service sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human Services, Special Education, Sociology, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

  • Experience providing direct support, behavioral support, caregiving, ILS, CFS, or similar services.

  • Familiarity with person-centered planning and community-based services.

  • Bilingual(Chinese) or multilingual skills are a plus+++.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work respectfully with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

  • Ability to follow individualized instructions and implement teaching strategies.

  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to assigned service locations.

  • Ability to complete required documentation accurately and on time.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

  • Must successfully complete required background clearance and agency onboarding requirements.

  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification, as required. (Will be reimbursed)

Astalynn LLC

Position Overview

Astalynn LLC is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Independent Living Skills Specialist (Entry) to provide individualized support and instruction to individuals with developmental disabilities. The Specialist will work directly with individuals in their homes and communities to help them develop practical skills that promote greater independence, confidence, self-advocacy, and participation in daily life.

This is an entry-level position designed for individuals who are passionate about helping others, are willing to learn, and can provide respectful and person-centered support. Training and guidance will be provided to help the Specialist effectively implement individualized learning plans and service goals.

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who is patient, dependable, empathetic, and genuinely interested in helping individuals develop greater independence. Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred but is not required for the entry-level position.

Candidates should be comfortable providing services in individuals' homes and accompanying individuals into community settings. The Specialist should also be able to work independently while following an individualized plan and communicating appropriately with the Astalynn supervisory team.
